Removing Terra from the Soil

Updated this week

Whether you want to move Terra to a new location or wrap up the season – care is needed when pulling it out. In compacted soil, simply pulling the sensor straight out can damage the soil rods.

How to do it

  1. Loosen the soil around Terra. Use a spade or garden fork and insert it into the soil generously around the sensor – keep at least a hand's length away from Terra to avoid hitting the rods.

  2. Release the soil. Gently lever the loosened area so the soil around the sensor becomes loose and Terra is no longer firmly held in place.

  3. Carefully lift Terra out. Now pull Terra straight upwards – without tilting or levering – to avoid bending or breaking the rods.

Why does this matter?

Terra's soil rods are robust, but not indestructible. In heavily compacted or clay-heavy soil, pulling the sensor out directly creates significant resistance – this can bend the rods or damage the sensor at the base.

A brief moment of preparation protects your sensor and extends its lifespan.
