Can I also use Li-ion batteries (1.5 V) in the FYTA Terra?

Updated over a week ago

We recommend using only NiMH (rechargeable) batteries for the FYTA Terra.

The sensor is specifically designed for this purpose:

It features a built-in solar cell that automatically recharges the NiMH batteries. Alternatively, standard alkaline batteries can also be used – in this case, the sensor will still work, but without the charging function.

We strongly advise against using lithium-ion batteries (1.5 V) – for two important reasons:

1. Safety in hot weather when outdoors

The FYTA Terra is designed for continuous outdoor use and may be exposed to direct sunlight. As a result, the casing can become very hot.

Li-ion batteries are sensitive to high temperatures and, in the worst case, may be damaged or pose a safety risk.

2. Incompatible charging electronics

The FYTA Terra’s built-in charging circuit is designed exclusively for NiMH batteries and detects them automatically. Other types of battery – particularly Li-ion – cannot be charged.

👉 Our recommendation:

Use NiMH rechargeable batteries to make the most of the solar charging function safely.
