The soil calibration is available for all FYTA sensors – for the FYTA Beam G1 as well as the FYTA Beam G2, FYTA Mini and FYTA Terra. Since the newer sensors are based on a different measurement method, the calibration flow in the app differs depending on the device. However, the entry point is identical for all sensors.
You can find the soil calibration in two places in the app:
In the sensor settings
In the plant settings
Start the flow via: My Devices → Calibrations and Tests → Soil Calibration → Start
The app will then guide you through the process step by step.
What happens after the calibration flow?
(Applies to FYTA Beam G2, FYTA Mini and FYTA Terra only)
The soil calibration consists of two parts. The first part – saturating the substrate – is carried out actively by you in the app. Once you have completed the flow, the second part begins automatically: Over the following 48 hours, our system continuously analyses your measurements and looks for the highest recorded moisture point during this period. This point corresponds to the field capacity of your individual substrate and is saved as a reference point – going forward, it will define the upper boundary of your plant's optimal moisture range.
Why does the soil calibration take 48 hours? After watering, the water often needs some time to distribute evenly throughout the entire substrate. In addition, fluctuations in temperature and humidity affect the measurement. On top of that: should you water again within the 48-hour window – or, for outdoor plants, a rain shower saturate the substrate further – we take that into account as well. We always use the highest measurement point within the full 48-hour window as the reference point.
Your calibration is therefore only fully complete 48 hours after saturating the substrate. During this time, you don't need to do anything – the FYTA system works quietly in the background.
